[Sample] Why a clean water plant needs a Lamella clarifier

A Lamella clarifier multiplies the effective settling area compared with a conventional horizontal tank, cutting retention time and construction footprint.

In a surface water treatment train, settling largely determines the quality of the filtered water. A conventional horizontal tank needs a very large footprint to reach a workable surface loading.

How it works

Inclined plates are stacked in parallel inside the tank. Floc settles onto a plate surface after a very short travel, slides down to the bottom, and clarified water rises to the collection troughs.

Design notes

Plate angle, spacing and the sludge collection system must be sized against the raw water characteristics. The wrong figures lead to clogged plate channels when turbidity is high.
